Music Video - Ed Sheeran " A Team"

Ed Sheeran " A Team"

The music video starts with a close up, of a women holding her hand over her mouth, and her eyes watering, she is obviously very emotional and is looking down all the time, the shot is in black and white, just like all of the video. She has a quick look around, and then the camera changes to a mid 2 shot, with a women lying not moving on what looks like a table or floor, the other women, is leaning over her looking at her face, the music has not begun yet and we can just her ambient sound in the background.

The camera changes to a close up of the lying down women’s face, she is not moving and keeps the same facial expression all the way through, we believe she has died or is unconscious. The camera slowly zooms out of the women’s face and starts turning blurry. The screen then goes black and the music starts.

As the music is starting the camera changes to a women lying on a bed, (looks like she is homeless) and she has a duvet or some type of blanket wrapped around her, this is a long shot, and again is in black and white. The women starts waking up and as she sits up straight, the camera swaps positions and is now behind her looking the way she is with here directly in front of the shot, this is a mid shot as it has zoomed into her.

The camera then swaps to a midshot from the front, clearly seeing her face and that her eyeliner has ran down her face, this suggests that she has been crying and fits perfectly with the black and white effect. The camera then becomes a long shot and the women is not standing up, we see she is wearing a hoodie, shorts and ripped tights, suggesting she does not have much money.

The women then walks out of shot and then, the camera changes to a midshot of her walking through trees, grabbing the branches and smiling. A quick cut swaps sides of the women as she spins round slowly and looks up into the sky. The camera then changes to a midshot of the women walking away and then the camera changes to a long shot of the women walking towards the camera up a path/ hill type area.

The camera then changes once she reaches the camera to a midshot of her chest upwards and allows us to see her smiling, the camera moves around her body as she slowly spins round too it then swaps to a close up of her face from a side view to see her smiling and looking up at the sky again.

The camera then swaps to a midshot of the women from behind, having raised here arms into the area like angel wings, this is very interesting shot as because it is in black and white we can’t see much detail and is more like an outline, with the sun acting as a halo as it is so bright, this matches the words to the song very well as it is talking about angels, this shot lasts for about 7 – 8 seconds, and is one of the longest shots in the video.

The camera then changes to a midshot, of the women’s legs and the pavement as it has moved location; she is now walking though a high street with the blanket wrapped around her body. It then swaps to a long shot, looking up at an angle to make everyone look more powerful and a halo like object is in the street above people’s heads. It then swaps to a shot looking straight up under the women’s chin, so making her look powerful, with the halo directly above her being shown.

The camera then swaps to a long shot of her walking to wads the camera from the other side of a crossing so it is very busy and people are walking all around her in both directions, the camera focuses on her all the way through the shot, it the swiftly changes to a close up of the women trying to see what looks like the big issue, suggesting even more, that she is quite poor or homeless. The camera then changes to the opposite side of her face and it has become night time and she is still there trying to sell the magazine, it is a close up of her face still and she looks tired and that she doesn’t what to be there. The camera then changes to the opposite side of the women again this time being a midshot and we see people walk past her ignoring her offers to buy the magazine.

The camera then changes to a long shot with the women sat down outside a shop, Ed Sheeran comes along, and decides to but a magazine and sits next to her to read it. It turns to a close up as Ed gives the women money, this could also be a 2 midshot as they are both in shot, but the shot is used to capture the emotion on the women’s face as she looks happier.

It then changes to a long shot again when Ed has to go and walks out of shot, this is done quickly and then swaps to a midshot of the women looking at flowers in a s tall with her blanket/duvet over her shoulder.

The shot then swaps to a close up of a sign saying “Improving the Angel, as the words “it’s too cold outside, for angels to fly” is heard in the lyrics. The camera then changes again to a close up of the women walking down another street, the women looks very sad and her eyeliner is running again, she talk to someone, but we don’t see who it is, we just see her mouth moving, t looks like they give a bad answer though as her face drops and she looks extremely upset.

The camera then changes again to the women leaning over a barrier in the street and traffic either side of her, this is from behind so we do not see her face. The woman stays there and the cars pass by her very quickly as she is not moving on the tape is sped up.

We then see the women sitting against a shop wall and peoples feet walking past her, this is a long shot and is again filmed over a long period of time and sped up for the effect of toms of people going past over a short period of time , the angle of the shot then changes as the camera is move at a 90 degree angle to the women, allowing us to see a side view and a partial front view and people walking towards and away from her, again this is sped up, and is used to capture the reaction on the women’s face.

The camera then changes to a close up of the women’s face as she looks upset and depressed closing her eyes with no emotion on her face, it then changes to another close up of her face as she is begging to cry and is biting her hand when it is in her hoodie sleeve, she looks very emotional and very upset.

It the swaps to the women looking in a mirror, and is over the shoulder high shot to make her look stronger, she is looking at how she looks in a dress, she then begins to do her hair up and the camera then changes to a close up of her wiping the eyeliner away and looking tidier as she begins to put more on , it then swaps to a close-up of her applying lipstick very slowly and puckering her lips.

The camera and location the swap to outside, which looks to be a car park with a car coming towards her with his headlamps on, this angle of the camera swaps to a close up of the women’s face, using the lights from the car coming towards her to see her face, better, she looks very sick and scared, she begins to walk, and the camera changes back to behind her and her walking to the car window. , she slowly takes her coat off, to show revealing clothing.

The camera then changes to a shot thought the window of the car showing she is a prostitute, she looks slightly more confident, and talks to the driver, once again never seeing the other persons face. The camera then stays in the same place and she begins to open the car and get it, just as she’s getting in, the camera angle changes to a long shot of her getting in the car, but from a front/side view now.

The camera then swaps to a back view of the car, with the car itself driving off the camera quickly swaps back to the front and the car drives out of frame, as it is in black and white the whole car park seen looks very murky, which is the way it is represented in modern life.

The camera then swaps to a long shot with the women and man who picked her up walking down a long corridor, looks like some type of hotel, the women is a good few meters behind the mad and they are walking away from the camera.

The camera then swaps to a midshot of the girl walking through a door and a bed being there, we see this as if the camera is already in the room and she is just walking into it, the camera then changes to a close up of the women and the man wrapping his time around her neck and the women pulling him close to her.

Once again the camera changes this time to a close-up of the man’s shirt as the women’s hands are all over him, as she reaches down to his shirt pocket to get some money from it, she then begins to open the shirt. It then swaps to a close up of the women lying in bed with her tights on; the camera starts at her feet and moves up the leg showing the man, touching her legs.

The camera swaps again to a close-up of the women’s face, this time from a side view lying in bed, so we can also see a blurred mans face. The women then tilt her head left, towards the camera and begin crying.

A close up of her hands are then show, at a new location, swapping some money, for a bag of drugs, the lyrics playing are “go mad for a couple of grams” which fit in perfectly to the song. The shot then becomes a mid shot of the women, walking towards a door and the camera follows her as a person would. She opens a door and walks through it. The shot then becomes a close up of the women slowly lifting the drugs to her eyes and staring at them smiling, it turns to another close up at a slightly different angle as she takes her close up. The camera then changes to a montage of close ups from the women’s face and lighting a candle and putting the drugs over them. Then ending on a close up of her face. However, she is smoking the drugs from a tube with a light underneath.

The video then ends with the women, looking high and falling onto something black, this is I think a bed, as she falls she has her eyes open, but slowly they close and she lies still and then a sunset going over some houses with a ghost like image of the women wearing a hoodie talking to someone (don’t see them again) but smiling at the end.

Overall, this video is exceptionally well made to say the artist does not have a record company and there for did not have a massive budget, the collaboration of shots used add amazing effects and the black and white effect used though the whole of the movie really does make it. The song lyrics match perfectly with what the music video is about and as it shows the artist, it also advertises him, but he is more concerned about having a story told in the music video. I would defiantly use some effects and shots that have been used in this video as it is extremely well made.

Reflections of our Busted video

When we were give the task to recreate the busted video for “What I go to school for” everyone was put a bit out of their comfort zone, as none of us wanted to be main characters or take a lead role. However after talking amongst ourselves on how we would approach the video, I decided to put myself forward for the role of “Charlie” one of the main roles.

When filming the video I think that we recreated it very well, and got most of the shots and props perfect, I think out time management skills were extremely bad however going nearly 2 weeks over the time we were meant to have and this let us down. Therefore in the real project I think time management will be a key area to focus on.

However, I think that the end product we created was extremely good and accurate compared with the original, there are obvious differences in settings and characters, but the camera shots used and the general scenes are near exact. I think that we could have done it better, if we had used our time more wisely and planned ahead with better props and clothing, but what we did was still good.

I think my contribution to the music video was great compared to others as I put myself forward for the lead role where some of the drama students said they would not do it. I also brought in some minor props for the main characters. Therefore I think my contribution was rather fair. I could have gotten more involved in the editing side of the project, but another pupil specifically wanted to do it.

The availability of the final video is extremely easy to find, the video is on my YouTube profile (sneakada1) and Josh Currans account and can easily be searched for. The final video is shown below:

Music Video - Paramore "Pressure"

Paramore "Pressure"

The first shot of this video is of a pressure cap stating the pressure in container, it then quickly swaps to water leaking to a pipe and then the band members, this is ironic as the name of the song is pressure and it has different props that relate to the title. When the band come into shot, we have a shot of the 2 guitarists strumming in a what looks like abanded warehouse type building, it then swaps to a high shot of the drummer starting to play the drums.

The shot goes to the whole band playing there instruments, head banging to the rhythm of the song, this happens for around 2 seconds, before having a midshot of Hayley Williams (singer) head banging with the drummer in the background, then swapping to the guitarists in the same way. This creates a very hectic effect as all the shots are short and quick, which is a very interesting effect to add, and I would defiantly use if I use a fast paced song.

The shot then changes to a man opening a door being told of my what we believe to be is his boss, or employer, the shot then cuts and the singing begins, we see the top of Hayley Williams head, and the drummer clearly, the camera then tilts down onto Hayley’s face and she is looking directly at the camera. The shot changes again to a model suit and you can see the model sitting getting ready to have her photos taken, the shot changes again, to the model at a different pose, again keeping all the shots in this section very short and quick, the shot changes to another position the model is in, the cuts to a midshot her face and upper body.

The shot changes back to the bad, with a close up of Hayley singing, this then zooms out and the whole band can be seen, the camera pans round right to left, and then zooms in on Hayley’s face again, the camera swaps to the drummer hitting both symbols and then swapping the shot back to the original boy getting told of by his employer, however this time, it is continuing after he got told off and he walks forward down a small kitchen putting on his hat.

The camera then swaps back to the group, close up of Hayley’s face at the begging then cutting to the whole band, however one of the guitarists is not in shot, a slow panning motion is done, and the camera then swaps back to a model sitting down, however the panning is still taking place to create a smooth transition effect. A close up is then seen on the models face, she is looking unhappy.

The camera once more swaps to a close up of Hayley and the music is building up, quickly it cuts to the drummer doing a run on the drums and then back out to see most of the band in shot the music has become heavier and the band is now head banging again. The camera then quickly swaps back to the model looking unhappy, it is a midshot again and the model reaches into her bag to pull put a silver object, the camera zooms in on the object, and we realise the tit is chocolate, a close up of the models mouth is then shown and she is about to bite into the chocolate, however a women s hand grabs the chocolate, a over the shoulder style shot is used, seeing this women, shaking her head and taking the chocolate away, this is used to show that stereotypically models cannot eat food like chocolate as they need to be as thin as possible.

The camera then swaps back to the band, however it is only of the 2 guitarists and the drummer and is in slow motion type, the guitarists are jumping around and you cannot see their faces clearly. A midshot of the one guitarists is then shown, with him head banging vigorously and playing the guitar, a close up of Hayley’s is shown once more, of their singing, this then swaps to a two shot of her and one of the guitarists, the camera quickly changes to the first shot area of a pressure gage, however the needle is going up showing the pressure is building, this is going along with the song and is used to show that the lyrics and video are meant to go together

The shot then goes back to Hayley Williams face being on a close up and alternates between a close up of her face and midshot of the members in the band head banging and playing there instruments, the shot then changes to the model sitting back down, and people walking past her, quickly changing back to a extreme close up of Hayley’s eyes just seeing the microphone in frame. A midshot of the drummer is then played, and a long shot of the band is show, it then quickly goes back to a midshot of Hayley singing and the guitarist in the background.

The shot changes once more to the man at work, filling up a cup with what looks like a chocolate ice-cream/milkshake drink, a close-up of Hayley’s eyes and face are shown once more, and then a shot of the man walking with the drink is played, however he walks straight into his boss, at this moment the camera then changes to a long shot of the band with all of them in the shot, the pressure gage is then shown and then a pipe and Hayley’s face again, this is all down extremely quickly, the shot then changes back to the worker and the boss, with a close-up of the drink and then a 2 shot of them both in frame, the boss looking very angry a close up of Hayley is again shown and then back to the worker frying chips, a close up of the chips are shown then the shot has been zoomed out seeing smoke everywhere, then cutting to the boss once more again looking very angry.

A close up of Hayley’s eyes are then seen again with the mi still in shot, the camera cuts back to the worker with the boss yelling and him walking away, the shot then changes to a close up of Hayley’s face again, this time focusing on her mouth. A close up of the worker shaking his head is then shown and quickly back to a quick shot of the drummer, a very unusual effect is then used on the shot of the guitarists, it is like a single frame at a time and then a black frame and so on so it looks extremely slow but the tension is building up, this is at 1:23 in the video, it then slow s down and when they hit the floor the camera shakes as if they were moving the ground around them, a close up of Hayley’s face is then used again and quickly the camera then cuts back to the pressure gage still building up a pipe just starting to leak is then shown, before going back to a midshot of Hayley, with it slowly zooming in on her face.

The camera then cuts to the guitarists lifting his guitar up and doing a fancy move, then a close up of the other guitarists face, then back to a zooming close-up of Hayley Williams face. we then see the model women once more, this time a side view of her face and shoulder, and her picking out some cloths, the shot then changes to her holding the cloths to her and looking in a mirror, a close up of Hayley’s face is then seen again, then to a two shot of the model and another women in front of the mirrors as if the camera was where the mirror was and the other women shaking her head, a close-up of Hayley is then shown again, then back to the the other women picking the cloths she thinks the model should wear, a close up of Hayley’s face is shown halfway through the picking of the cloths shot and then again straight after it. A pan of all the band members are used and the camera then stops on Hayley, the camera then swaps back quickly to the model in front of the mirror and a close up of the model sighing is then shown.

Once more a close up of Hayley’s mouth is then shown and a slow motion shot of one of the guitarists, quickly swapping to a panning shot of the drummer, and then a midshot of a guitar player head banging.

The camera then swaps to a man taking food back to the original man at the beginning and then swapping back to the whole band head banging , before finishing of a midshot of Hayley, then back to the man then back to the band with one of the guitarists jumping in the air. The camera then changes to show the man and the employer arguing, and the man leaving his uniform and walking out of the establishment.

The camera then quickly changes to Hayley’s face again, being a close up, but seeing the drums in the background. Then to the pressure gage building up again and back to the water pipe begging in to leak. Before going back to a zooming close-up of Hayley singing and grabbing her hair. The shot then changes to the man walking to an area, before the camera then quickly cuts back to Hayley’s eyes and face, the drummer is then seen in a midshot of him doing a run, and then a zooming close-up of Hayley is shown again, before swapping to a side view of this. The man is then scene in a midshot looking through a window, the model is on the other side shaking her head being surrounded by makeup artists. Quickly changing to the man mouthing “come on” and the women saying she can’t. The man raises his figure as if to say one minute then runs out of shot, the pressure gage is then shown, going into the red area, and the water pipe again is shown.

The shot then cuts to the man pulling on a fire alarm , the shot changes to the pipe that then releases lots of water like a sprinkler around the area it is, the camera then shows Hayley and all band mates getting wet because of this, but they carry on singing and a midshot of Hayley is used, a Random women is then shown ( believed to be one of the makeup artists) getting wet due to a sprinkler before the camera changes once more to the band specifically the guitarist getting wet but carrying on. A close up of Hayley is then shown again with some band members visible in the background, we then cut to a shot of the makeup artists running off and the model sitting there, and then once again back to a close up of Hayley singing in the water, then back to the model sitting there and back to Hayley singing, then a shot of the two guitarist doing a trick and the black single shot frame technique used again , a close up of the drummer is then shown, then back to a close up of Hayley then a midshot of her with the band.

The pressure gauge is then back into shot before the camera quickly cuts to the band in the water again, with a montage of shots of the members in the band playing there instruments and head banging. The camera then changes to the original boy telling the girl to come on. Her getting up out of the chair and a close up of hr grabbing his hand. A close-up of Hayley is then shown again and then a midshot of the whole band, swapping quickly to the pressure gage going back to zero and then ending of a pan of the band standing there soaking wet fading to black.

In conclusion this video is extremely good, it has lots of shots of the main singer and the band, which will get them more known as it shows there talents off, and also that there is a story line behind the lyrics and the video of how people are living with too much pressure and they can’t always cope, the music fits the video very well with certain points being very well placed like the “feel the pressure” lyrics always being when we see the pressure gage. The weird, single frame to black frame repetition is also very good and interesting something I would definitely think about using in my video, I also like the layout of the video where most times, when the band is scene, it goes back to a close up of the singers face to show the emotions behind the singing. Overall i thinking this is a exceptional music video that was very well planned out.

Music Video - Example "Kickstarts"

Example "Kickstarts"

The music video for Kickstarts is based on how (example) the main man, feels about a women. The first shot is a screen showing someone’s feet tapping to the beat of the music with example written across the screen which shudders to the beat also. It then swaps to someone else’s feet, I think a women’s, which is also tapping to the beat of the song.

The screen then splits in 2 showing both feet as if to suggest that they were meant for each other as they are making the same movement. The screen then splits into 4 areas, each showing different feet, both pares this time and after each beat, the feet change, this then gradually takes over the screen with more and more different tiled movies of feet tapping to the song.

The feet then dissolve to see a women’s face, which is touching her hands, as she is doing this the screen splits with (example) the main singer, singing the lyrics to the song. The images then change to him holding someone’s hands loosely, matching the lyrics to the song “might be holding your hand, but I’m holding it loose”.

The song carries on playing and the tiled movies change side at various points showing both singer and girl together, they then begin to play fight, however the singer (example) looks sad then happy afterwards. The screen changes to the singer, sitting and blowing chewing gum on his own, the base the song then gets faster and the beats quickens and a montage of different people take his place.

The screen then shoes the couple together, on an old style couch, where they are close to each other; however example is singing the words to the song, then going back to the shots of their hands, before finally going into the women’s face and then a montage of different women taking her spot.

The women then blows bubbles to the camera and it swaps to a montage of t tiles, horizontal to each other, showing different couples acting the same way as example and the women at the beginning, with a new tile appearing to the left of the screen when the men brush the women’s hair over the ear.

The camera then cuts to example standing in a doorway dancing, the screen cuts into the vertical pieces, each changing a section of his body to another person. Close ups of his face then show, then swiftly goes back to the 3 sections, however household objects and funny images are replacing some of the tiles. The camera then splits into two tiles, showing the top and bottom half of examples face, these then change to other peoples who have previously been in the video.

Screen the changes to example singing, and slowly the screen shudders down following the lyrics and beat of the song to exaggerate the meaning. Example is then sat on a bench while a woman is in a house in the same shot, but example slowly gets blurred out. Then goes to a close up of him singing, quickly cutting to a montage of images of him and the women sat at a table, and a small noose made from the pasta on the table.

Montages of different couples sat at the table begin to show, and then shortly followed by a close up of example on one side and a women on the other. Then swapping to mid shots of them both. And finally a close up of example. A shot of an eye is show on the left had side of the screen is shown as the lyrics become “ look into your eyes” a montage of example then appears with lots of close ups. And then a shot of 2 hands slipping away from each other as the change from different people’s hands.

Montages of different people are then shown as a couple, before it repeats going back to the 3 area section of examples body changing into other people. Shots of example are then used when he sings the lyrics, “ i get cold feet” and bare feet are shown underneath his body. A montage of different women’s body parts is then shown with close-ups of examples face. A montage of couples in a tent are then shown, swapping the people one after another. Finishing with a close up of the women on top of example smiling.

Overall, I think this is an exceptionally well made music video, that coordinates well with the lyrics of the song, but also the different angles and shots used as well as techniques lead to a interesting music video that really captures the views eye and tells a story to them as well as showing band members to publicises the band.

Stars in Music Video's

Music videos normally contain the band that plays the song in them; this is due to the record company wanting the band to be promoted throughout the video, this allows the band to be more recognisable and this is also more likely to get the band better known by the views seeing the video.

The reason that a music video may have well known actors in can vary widely, it could be the song to a film and therefore use film footage, or it could be to try and make the video better to watch for the user and be more likely to get a larger amount of views, this is because the well known actor is like to add value to the music video and make it more popular to the viewers.
